This poem was my Service Project Poem. I went to an elementary school down the street from meramec and read books to third graders. it was good times. and this is the poem I wrote about it.

Innocence is in the Eye of the Beholder

In the eyes of the INNOCENT floats
          a dream upon
                       a wish
To their ever expanding minds
small we say, but larger then many
                           of ours, NOTHING
is impossible. To dance upon
                             the silver moon
                                   and GLIDE among the
brilliant orbs of the heavens,
               swim down deep where only
                          the BRIGHTLY colored sea creatures
see, visit hidden worlds
          among the cool waters
In the eyes of the INNOCENT
floats a dream upon
                      a wish
When tears are shed over lost
plastic treasures, TRAGEDIES
in the form of spilled liquid rainbows
no thought given to grown up days
of responsibilities, broken hearts, CRUSHED dreams
“When I grow up…” comes sooner
than later, the dreams that float
              upon
a wish lost with the INNOCENCE
                             of the INNOCENT
